Food products in Uzbekistan become more expensive by 17.5% for year

On average, prices for food products in Uzbekistan rose by 1.4 percent in September 2019, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Since the beginning of 2019, prices for goods of this group increased by an average of 8.4 percent, and the average monthly increase in the price index for this period amounted to 0.9 percent.

In annual terms (September 2019 compared to September 2018), food products became more expensive by 17.5 percent.

The prices for the main groups of the food products including prices for eggs (8.2 percent), meat, poultry and fish (2.7 percent), sugar, tea and other food products (1.6 percent), as well as in the catering sector (1.8 percent) increased more significantly than others in September of the current year.

Of bakery products, the highest increase was observed in the prices for cereals and legumes (on average by 1.8 percent, including rice - by 1.9 percent). In addition, wheat flour (by 1 percent), as well as pastries, pasta and bakery products of all kinds (in the range from 0.4 percent to 0.9 percent), went up in price.

Out of meat and poultry products, prices for beef (excluding boneless meat) increased by 3.5 percent, boneless beef - by 2.3 percent, lamb - by 2.9 percent, poultry meat (except legs) - by 3.0 percent, and chicken legs and drumstick - by 1.6 percent.

The dynamics of prices for fruits and vegetables is traditionally the most subject to change. The peak of monthly price growth was registered in January (8.3 percent), the maximum decrease occurred in July (by 11.1 percent), the report said .

In September this year, the price for fruits, vegetables and potatoes decreased by 1.1 percent for the month. Furthermore, the changes in prices for goods of this group was uneven. Price decrease was recorded for melons (by 15.5 percent), onions (by 12.8 percent), grapes (by 9.5 percent) and pumpkin (by 7.1 percent).

In turn, prices went up for garlic (9.3 percent), cabbage (7.4 percent), tomatoes (5.7 percent), carrots (4.6 percent), cucumbers and potatoes (3.9 percent), apples (by 3.4 percent) and bananas (by 1.1 percent).
