DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 2. Tajikistan’s Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ) registered three new entities during the first half of 2024, bringing the total to 37, Trend reports.
Muhammad Sulton, Head of the FEZ Administration, announced at a press conference that 21 of these entities are engaged in manufacturing, construction, services, and trade.
He disclosed that industrial output in the FEZ reached 180.3 million somoni ($17 million) in the first half of 2024, up 16.3 percent or 25.3 million somoni ($2.3 million) compared to the same period last year.
The value of construction work and services during this period totaled 1.9 million somoni ($179,176), which is a 46 percent increase from the previous period.
The FEZ also saw an increase in employment, with 885 jobs created—47 more than in the previous period.
Established in 2009, the Sughd FEZ covers 320 hectares and operates under special customs and tax regimes with streamlined registration procedures. The zone is set to operate for 50 years.
