Tajikistan bolsters cotton exports beyond CIS borders

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 10. The value of Tajikistan's cotton exports to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) amounted to $133.459 million from January through September 2024, Trend reports.

Data from Tajikistan's Customs Service shows that the figure rose by 31 percent compared to the same period last year ($101.833 million).

At the same time, cotton exports to CIS countries amounted to $22.124 million, a nearly 49 percent decrease compared to $43.443 million in the January-September 2023 period.

In total, for the first nine months of 2024, Tajikistan exported 83,780 tons of cotton worth $155.582 million.

To note, Tajikistan's trade turnover for the first nine months of 2024 reached $6.387 billion, a 25 percent increase compared to $5.103 billion during the same period in 2023.

Exports amounted to $1.349 billion, which is a 45 percent increase compared to $933.1 million in January-September 2023. Imports grew by 21 percent year-on-year, from $4.17 billion to $5.037 billion in the first three quarters of 2024.

The share of exports in the country's total trade turnover accounted for 21 percent, while imports made up 79 percent.
