Uzbekistan’s Uzbekipaksanoat association will begin to create a special platform to develop the export potential of the silk industry in the region - the Central Asian-European Silk Association headquartered in Tashkent.
The work will be carried out jointly with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and OPEC Fund for International Development.
These plans were voiced during the first Uzbek-European Silk Forum, organized in Vienna, Austria.
“Uzbekipaksanoat association and the Uzbek embassy in Austria were initiators of the forum,” the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
More than 300 representatives of leading European companies specializing in silk industry, equipment production, heads of textile associations, chambers of commerce and industry, investment agencies of several EU countries, financial institutions and international organizations took part in the forum.
The manufacturers of silk products from Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia, Turkey and other countries attended the forum.
Chairman of Uzbekipaksanoat association Bahrom Sharipov said that today Uzbekistan is the third biggest silk producer in the world after China and India.
“During the forum, an agreement was reached to intensify cooperation between Uzbekipaksanoat association and Italian companies specializing in the production of silk products,” President of the Italian Silk Association Stefano Vitali said.
A memorandum on expansion of cooperation is planned to be signed between Uzbekipaksanoat association and the National Fashion League Hungary Association.
“Austrian companies are also interested in various formats of cooperation, including the transfer of modern technological solutions and the production of modern clothing made from Uzbek silk,” Eva Maria Strasser, executive director of the Austrian Textile Federation, said.
Agreements on the export of Uzbekistan’s silk products to European countries, in particular Austria (silk fabric), Italy (silk yarn), Hungary and Slovakia (finished silk products) were reached following the forum.
