Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 July / Trend E. Ismailov /
The installed capacity of power transmission facilities of Bakyelektrikshebeke JSC (Baku's energy operator) in Baku exceeds the demand twice, a representative of the technical control department of Bakyelektrikshebeke JSC Mehman Abbasov said during the signing of agreements on cooperation in the field of training of personnel with the Azerbaijan Technical University on Tuesday.
According to him, the installed capacity of the generating facilities of JSC (including transformers and substations) totals 5000 MW. At present, the demand for electricity in Baku is at 2000-2500 MW.
"In line with our existing facilities, it is possible to provide electricity to two cities of size of Baku," Abbasov said.
According to him, if at the beginning of Bakyelektrikshebeke JSC's operations in 2006, technical losses stood at 16.8 percent, now this figure is at nine percent and is to be reduced.
As Abbasov noted, current installed capacity of the country's power system is 6,450 MW, of which about 5,500 megawatts are in use. Meanwhile, the country's demand for electricity is at the level of 4000-4400 MW.
