BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 9. The number of railway vehicles (locomotives, wagons, etc.) produced in Iran increased by 10.2 percent during eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through November 21, 2023), Iran's Deputy Minister of Mining, Industry, and Chairman of Iran's Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) Farshad Moghimi told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, Iran produced 1,975 units of railroad vehicles during the eight months. However, during the same period last year, 1,792 units of railroad vehicles were produced.
Moghimi added that it is planned to produce 3,858 units of railway vehicles in the country during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025).
The deputy minister noted that the increase in the production of railroad vehicles will contribute to the growth of cargo transportation by railroad in the country.
To note, the length of railway lines in Iran is 14,984 kilometers. A total of 993 locomotives, 29,950 freight cars, and 2,178 passenger wagons are operating on Iran's railroad lines.
