BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. In 2024, agricultural production in Albania recorded significant developments in several crops, Trend reports citing the country's Institute of Statistics.
Cereals reached 649,919 tons, with the highest production level in Fier prefecture with 149,252 tons, followed by Elbasan and Korça.
Vegetables registered a production of 1,424,404 tons, recording a 2.9 percent increase, compared to the previous year. Fier, Tiranë, and Berat prefectures had the highest production.
The production of potatoes showed an increase of 1.3 percent, reaching 277,824 tons, with highest production in Korçë prefecture.
Beans and medicinal plants increased by 4.6 percent and 7.7 percent, respectively, while industrial plants decreased by 7.9 percent.
Greenhouse production represents 22.7 percent of total vegetable production, with an annual growth rate of 4.0 percent.
Fier and Berat prefectures contribute to this production respectively with 49.1 percent and 30.2 percent.
Fresh vegetables represent 66.1 percent of total production, with tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers being the most represented of this category.
Dry onions represent 83.9 percent of the production within the dry vegetables group, while in the melon group, watermelon represents 80.2 percent of this group production.
Fruit tree production reached 295,532 tons, showing a 3.1 percent increase, with Korçë prefecture as the main contributor.
Apples represent the largest share of pome fruit category, while plums dominate among stone fruits.
Olive production reached 146,726 tons, recording a 24.6 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Vlorë prefecture is the main contributor to citrus production, with 62.6 percent of the total national production of 59,162 tons.
