DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, May 5. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is extending additional financing for an ongoing water supply and wastewater improvement project in the city of Kulob in southern of Tajikistan.
The data obtained by Trend from the EBRD indicates that bank will provide a sovereign loan of up to 1.5 million euros to support the continued modernization of key water infrastructure in Kulob, the fourth-largest city in the country.
This financing will complement the existing 15 million euro funding package comprising EBRD loans and EU grants approved in 2021 and 2022 to support municipal infrastructure upgrades.
The additional funds will be used to modernize Kulob’s water and wastewater systems, including intakes and pumping stations. The project also includes the upgrade of wastewater treatment facilities and the procurement and installation of water meters.
Upon completion, the project is expected to provide 24-hour access to clean drinking water for more than 100,000 people and help save millions of cubic meters of water annually in Tajikistan.
