BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29. Azerbaijan’s modern irrigation systems have been implemented on 10 percent of agricultural land, the Agrarian Innovation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture told Trend
The use of pivot irrigation has proven to be more water-efficient, reducing consumption by up to 40 percent while enhancing irrigation effectiveness and crop yields.
"Today, modern irrigation systems—such as sprinkler and drip irrigation—are being implemented on farms nationwide, supported by state initiatives aimed at promoting their global adoption. Currently, these advanced systems have been installed in 10 percent of irrigated crop areas. The use of pivot irrigation in particular enables farms to use water more efficiently, with savings of up to 40 percent, while also enhancing crop yields and irrigation efficiency. This method allows for precise water consumption calculations and helps mitigate soil erosion risks.
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Azerbaijan’s economy, playing a crucial role in ensuring food security and driving economic growth. The country is actively pursuing advancements in agricultural practices based on innovative technologies.
One of the primary objectives in the agricultural sector is to boost production volumes through improved productivity per unit of land," the center said.
