BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11. A total of 8.5 million tons of freight and 4.64 million passengers in Azerbaijan were transported by rail from January through June 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee indicates that freight transportation decreased by 9.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024, while passenger transport increased by 20.7 percent.
The data also shows that across all modes of transportation, freight and passenger traffic rose by 2.8 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively.
Economic entities operating in the country’s transport sector moved a total of 116.4 million tons of goods during the reporting period. Of this volume, 4 percent was transported by sea, 7.3 percent by rail, 0.2 percent by air, 60.1 percent by road, and 28.4 percent via pipeline.
