ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 26. Kazakhstan’s Samruk-Energy and Qatari Nebras Power discussed the progress of implementing a major hydropower project in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

The Chairman of the Board of JSC "Samruk-Energy," Kairat Maksutov, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nebras Power, Mohammed Nasser Al-Hajri, with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the State of Qatar, Arman Isagaliev. During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation within the framework of the construction of a 300 MW hydropower plant in the Abai region.

The project is being implemented following the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the State of Qatar on establishing a long-term strategic partnership for the development of projects in priority sectors, signed on March 20, 2024, in Doha. The meeting reviewed the current progress of the project and outlined key steps for its effective implementation.

JSC "Samruk-Energy" and Nebras Power confirmed their interest in further strengthening their partnership and jointly implementing strategically significant initiatives in the field of hydropower.
