BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. bp plans to explore the possibility of degassing in Azerbaijan, Ariel Flores, Executive SVP, Upstream of bp, said, Trend reports.
He made the remark at the plenary session “The Latest Trends in the Global Energy Markets and Prospects for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation” at the international conference and exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2024” (OTG 2024) in Ashgabat today.
"Over the past 32 years, we have successfully worked in the Caspian region alongside our global partners and stakeholders, developing energy projects. We recently launched our ninth platform in the Caspian - the ACE platform, which is the first fully remotely operated platform. Additionally, we have signed memoranda of understanding with the Azerbaijani government to further explore and develop blocks in the fields in Karabakh, and we will also be considering opportunities for degasification.
We are leveraging these opportunities to enhance the safety and efficiency of our operations while working to reduce emissions. To achieve this, we are implementing the latest innovative technologies and automation, including methane measurement technologies at all our sites worldwide and industry-first drones for inspecting our assets," he mentioned.
He also mentioned that bp is putting their ducks in a row to weave renewable energy into the mix.
"We'll begin constructing a 240-megawatt solar power plant in Azerbaijan. This will allow us to stop burning gas for the energy supply of the Sangachal terminal, enabling the export of this gas. We'll transition to grid electricity, which will help decarbonize our operations at the terminal and continue reducing overall emissions associated with oil and gas development," Flores added.
To note, the OGT 2024 forum is an international platform that brings together leading national and international oil and gas companies, as well as industry experts and financial institutions. The major objective of the event is to strengthen the dialog on sustainable development of the energy sector and attract investments into the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan. The forum will discuss the prospects of field development, modernization of processing facilities, as well as the introduction of advanced technologies and environmental aspects of hydrocarbon production.
