ASTANA, Kazahstan, December 6. During President Tokayev's recent visit to Qatar, Nurlan Zhakuypov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna, announced several ongoing projects in collaboration with Qatari companies, Trend reports.
One of the key developments is a partnership with Qatar Water Electric Company (QWEC) for the construction of a 350 MW hydroelectric power station on the Irtysh River in Kazakhstan. This project is part of a broader agreement between Kazakhstan and Qatar, which includes multiple energy and infrastructure initiatives.
The Semey Hydroelectric Station, part of this collaboration, is expected to significantly enhance Kazakhstan's energy capacity, with an operational target set for 2031, Zhakuypov reported.
Qatar’s investment in Kazakhstan spans several other key sectors, including energy, where they are also involved in the development of gas processing plants and pipelines, as part of a comprehensive plan to increase the country’s energy production.
Earlier, Kazakhstan's Parliament ratified the agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Qatar, establishing a long-term strategic partnership aimed at developing projects in priority sectors based on the agreement, signed in Doha on March 20, 2024.
