ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 27. The newly revamped "Kaplanbek" and "Navoi" automobile border crossing points are now up and running on the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border, Trend reports.

The customs posts located on the external border of the EAEU with China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan continue the large-scale modernization of 9 automobile crossing points.

Due to the imminent temporary closure by the Uzbek side of the "Gisht-Kuprik" crossing point (adjacent to the "Zhibek Zholy" (RK) crossing point) for the completion of construction work on modernization, by mutual agreement, the "Kaplanbek" (RK) and "Navoi" (Uzbekistan) crossing points have been opened for pedestrian movement, as well as the passage of light vehicles and buses.

Both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have carried out simultaneous modernization and technical upgrades at the "Kaplanbek" and "Navoi" crossing points, and today a technical opening of these points took place.

After the parties come to an understanding, the next step will be to allow freight vehicles to pass through these crossing points.

The "Kaplanbek" crossing point was built according to advanced international standards and is equipped with modern technological equipment used for state control procedures. All necessary conditions have been created for the comfortable crossing of the border by individuals.

The entire vehicle movement cycle has been automated. It is expected that the capacity for crossing individuals will increase to 20,000, and for vehicles, up to 800 vehicles per day.

The date for the temporary closure of the "Zhibek Zholy" crossing point will be announced later.

Additionally, due to commissioning work, the crossing of individuals, light vehicles, and buses will be limited from January 27 to February 5.

Starting February 5, the crossing point will be running at full steam.
