ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 30. A third railway checkpoint is planned to open at the Kazakhstan-China border, said Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Marat Karabaev to Kazakh media, Trend reports.
Minister Karabaev also shared details of the transport-related topics during a meeting between the Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Russia, Olzhas Bektenov and Mikhail Mishustin.
Karabaev noted that the construction of a new railway line,
"Bakhty-Ayagoz," and a new checkpoint at the Kazakhstan-China
border were among the topics discussed at the meeting.
"A major project that we are promoting is a new, third railway
checkpoint with the PRC. It will be focused on transit traffic. The
cargo will move between China and Russia through Kazakhstan," said
minister
He also added that this year, modernization works will begin at six
checkpoints in Kazakhstan, which will double their throughput
capacity.
"We specifically discussed synchronizing the work so that the
checkpoints are modernized both in Kazakhstan and Russia at the
same time, and we discussed the operational mechanism of these
checkpoints so that they don't close during this period and can
work in a specific format," Karabaev concluded.
To note, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin arrived in Astana on a working visit. He will also participate in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting and events of the Digital Almaty Technology Forum.
