Some 4,000 Iranian sailors have not received their salaries for a couple of months due to fluctuations if foreign currency prices, the Fars News Agency quoted member of the Iranian parliament Hossein Dehdashti as saying.
I have warned the minister of finance and economic affairs about consequences of this problem, but I have received no response yet, he said.
This issue has disencouraged the sailors and has caused many economic problems for them, he noted.
The value of the rial, which in January 2012 was trading at 16,900 to the dollar on the street, has slumped as financial and economic sanctions against Iran were tightened to force it to curb its atomic program.
European Union countries have halted oil imports from the Islamic Republic since July and U.S. measures that came into force last month are further restricting the government's access to hard currencies.
USD was traded at 35,200 rials in Iran's free market on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the government maintains an official reference rate of 12,260 rials to the dollar, but only a limited amount of foreign exchange is available at this rate.
