Mining of non-ferrous metal ores in Kazakhstan reached 107 billion tenge in January 2019, which is 25.2 percent more year-on-year, Trend reports via Kazakh media.
This is the highest figure in recent years.
Last year, mining of copper ores reached 103,2 million tons (8.2 percent up year-on-year), copper concentrates – 12.9 million tons (15.7 percent up), copper-zinc ores – 4.8 million tons (4.2 percent down), and copper in copper concentrate – 580,600 tons (15.5 percent up).
The main consumers of Kazakhstan's copper are Asian and CIS countries. In 2018, total exports of refined and raw copper alloys amounted to $2.4 billion. China (55.4 percent), the United Arab Emirates (16.1 percent) and the UK (15.4 percent) accounted for the largest share in exports.
At the same time, exports of copper waste and scrap amounted to $58.4 million (main importers – Russia and Belarus), and exports of copper wire reached $1.1 million (the only importer – Russia) in 2018.
It should also be noted that in the first 9 months of 2018, foreign direct investment in metal ore mining in Kazakhstan amounted to $368.2 million (95.4 percent up year-on-year).
