Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Nov.20
By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:
Ongoing geological exploration works indicate the existence of more gas reserves at Turkmenistan's Galkynysh field, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan Muhammetnur Halylov said at the "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan -2013" conference that is being held in Ashgabat from Nov.19-21.
"Only the reserves of the worldwide Galkynysh gas field that ranks second in the world indicate the existence of the enormous gas potential. The results of the continuing geological exploration works here show the expansion of gas-bearing area and possibility of existence of more gas reserves," the minister said.
According to the minister, thanks to the opening of Galkynysh gas field, the total proven reserves and potential hydrocarbon resources of Turkmenistan have significantly increased. The gas component accounts for 70 percent of the estimated potential hydrocarbon resources of the country.
The largest fields in Turkmenistan are concentrated in Mary province in the country's Eastern sector. Total resources of Galkinish and nearby fields which is closely are estimated by local geologists and the GCA British Company to be within 26.2 trillion cubic meters.
