The gas condensate will be used instead of liquefied gas to generate electricity in thermal power plants in Iran, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Homayoun Haeri said at the press conference, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.
Haeri emphasized that gas condensate will be used for the first time, as a pilot in one of the units of the Asaluyeh TPP in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran).
Haeri added that several meetings were held with representatives of MAPNA Group on the use of gas condensate instead of liquefied gas in thermal power plants.
The deputy minister noted that the researches were carried out for use of gas condensate and several changes have been made in the turbines.
"The Ministry of Petroleum of Iran is expected to provide the necessary gas condensate to the Ministry of Energy of Iran," he said.
At present, the total production of power plants in Iran, including thermal, water, alternative, small-scale, and nuclear power plants is 83,685 megawatts, and 81 percent of the volume is produced by TPPs.
Currently, the combined power plant cycle accounts for 41.7 percent of the production potential of Iran's thermal power plants with 28,249 megawatts, the gas units account for 34.9 percent with 23,657 megawatts, and steam units account for 23.4 percent with 15,829 megawatts.
