BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. The production volume of handmade carpets in Iran in the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through July 21, 2024) increased by six percent compared to the same period last year, the head of the National Carpet Center of Iran Mohammad Reza Zare Borzeshi told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, 1.35 million square meters of carpets were handwoven in Iran over four months.
Borzeshi added that last Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), three million square meters of carpets were woven in Iran.
The representative of the center pointed out that in four months, the export of handmade carpets amounted to $11.5 million, which is 12 percent more than in the same period last year.
To note, two million people are employed in the handmade carpet
weaving industry in Iran. Two years ago (from March 21, 2021, to
March 20, 2022), Iran exported handmade carpets worth $64
million.
