Volume of interprovincial truck freightages in Iran goes up

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. The amount of goods shipped by freight transport across Iran's provinces during the first half of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024) has seen a three percent uptick compared to the same stretch last year (March 21 through September 22, 2023).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development shows that 283 million tons of cargo were transported between Iran's provinces by trucks during the six months. However, during the same period last year, the volume of cargo transported by trucks between 31 provinces of the country amounted to 276 million tons.

Isfahan province with 29 million tons and Tehran province with 26 million tons transported the most amount of cargo during the mentioned period. The least amount of cargo - one million tons was transported to Kohgiluyeh and Buir Ahmad provinces provinces and two million tons to North Khorasan province.

Of the cargoes transported, 33 percent are construction materials and mining minerals, 20 percent chemical products, 19 percent agricultural products, 16 percent metal products, and 12 percent other products (equipment, paper, wood, etc.).

Meanwhile, more than 555 million tons of goods were transported between provinces by trucks in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024).

To note, 2,793 km of highways, 45170 km of highways, and trunk roads are currently running in Iran.
