ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 4. The Kyrgyz side has committed to increasing the water flow from the Kirov Reservoir to the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

Following the 12th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan Intergovernmental Council in Bishkek, attended by the head of the Kazakh government, Olzhas Bektanov, and the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the President's Administration of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, agreements were reached on cooperation in the field of water resources.

During the meeting, it was noted that this year's growing season had proceeded normally. The Kyrgyz side, in accordance with the agreements, ensured the full supply of water through the Chu and Talas rivers. As a result, agricultural producers in the Zhambyl region received the full amount of water.

“We raised the issue of filling the Kirov Reservoir. The current water volume is three times higher than last year’s level. We are concerned that there will be a significant influx of water during the spring floods, and this volume could be directed to the Zhambyl region. The Kyrgyz side assured that they are monitoring this process closely, and during the spring floods, the water will be released in a safe manner. The Kyrgyz side has committed to doubling the water flow from the Kirov Reservoir during the inter-vegetation period. Currently, we receive 10 cubic meters per second, and they will increase it to 20 cubic meters per second if necessary,” noted the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.

To note, the 12th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan Intergovernmental Council took place in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, where issues of expanding trade and economic cooperation were discussed, based on agreements reached at the level of the two heads of state. Following the meeting, several documents were signed, including a roadmap for increasing mutual agricultural product deliveries and a memorandum of cooperation in the field of tourism development.
