Uzbekistan plans to start supplying fruit and vegetables to the UK markets, Trend reports citing Dunyo News Agency.
The possible export operations were discussed during negotiations between the Plant Quarantine Inspectorate of Uzbekistan (Uzgoskarantin) and the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
The British side welcomed the ongoing reforms in phytosanitary sphere in Uzbekistan, stressing the timeliness of Uzbekistan's accession to the International Plant Protection Convention and the government's efforts to harmonize the national norms with international standards.
During the videoconference, issues related to the possible removal of barriers for the export of Uzbek agricultural products to the UK market have been discussed in detail.
According to the British side, there are opportunities for exports to the UK of pomegranate, cherry, plum, nectarine, apricot, persimmon, apple, pear, grapes, lemon, hot pepper and tomatoes.
In addition, the sides exchanged views on intensifying scientific cooperation between the agencies, including through joint scientific research and publications, strengthening laboratory diagnostics in the regions and other activities.
As reported, possibilities of attracting British grants for this purpose will be explored.
