Guaranteed wheat purchases in Iran's North Khorasan grow

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 1. The volume of guaranteed wheat purchased from farmers in North Khorasan Province, located in northeastern Iran, increased by 6.5 percent from June 6 through July 1, 2024, compared to the same period last year, the General Director of the North Khorasan branch of the State Trading Company of Iran Ahmad Namvar said, Trend reports.

During that time, he claims, buyers bought above 54,000 tons of wheat from North Khorasan Province farmers.

Namvar noted that 22 centers for guaranteed purchase of wheat from farmers are currently operating in the province.

Meanwhile, a total of 142,000 ha of wheat has been sown in Iran's North Khorasan Province. During the current year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), it is expected that 214,000 tons of wheat will be harvested from the mentioned territory. This could result in an increase of 60 percent compared to last year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024).

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is guaranteed to be purchased by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).

Six million hectares of wheat fields will be harvested by Iran this year. Two million hectares are undeveloped land, and four million hectares are farmland.
