Iran unveils amount of tea leaves purchased from local farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 16. About 84,000 tons of tea leaves worth about 14 trillion rials (about $35.7 million) were purchased from Iranian farmers from April 20 through July 12, the Chairman of the Tea Organization of Iran Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports.

According to him, 5.52 trillion rials (about $14 million) have been paid to farmers in exchange for tea leaves bought during the mentioned period. The rest of the funds will also be paid in the coming weeks.

Jahansaz noted that 78 tea factories in the country are currently engaged in purchasing tea leaves from farmers.

Meanwhile, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025) in Iran, 1st-grade tea costs 180,000 rials (about $0.46) and 2nd-grade tea - 150,000 rials (about $0.38).

Additionally, more than 149,000 tons of tea leaves were sold to tea factories in Iran during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024). Altogether, the country produced about 33,600 tons of dry tea.

To note, the annual consumption of tea in Iran is 100,000 tons.
