BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 2. Iran and Armenia signed an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of commodity barter and services on October 1, Trend reports, referring to Iran's Trade Development Organization.

The agreement was signed within the framework of the visit of the Chairman of the Trade Development Organization of Iran Mohammad-Ali Dehghan Dehnavi to Yerevan.

In light of the ink drying on the cooperation agreement between Iran and Armenia, Iranian Trade Attaché in Armenia, Sepideh Akbarpour Tajrishi, remarked that under the provisions of the agreement, the two sides will mutually present companies as operators in three months. These companies will call the shots on the list of products that can be swapped and lay the groundwork for making this agreement a reality.

Tajrishi also noted that bartering is encouraged since sanctions make financial transfers cumbersome.

To note, according to the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration, during the five months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through August 21, 2024), Iran's trade turnover with Armenia amounted to 886,000 tons worth about $192 million.
