Iran and Russia agreed to develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of fisheries and aquaculture not only in the Caspian Sea but also in the Persian Gulf.
Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia Kazem Jalali, the Minister of Agricultural Jihad Kazem Khavazi, and Ilya Shestakov Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery held a meeting on joint research and scientific cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture, agreed to expand cooperation, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Iran is prepared for an important mission to protect sturgeon as well as bony fish in the Caspian Sea," Khavazi said.
The Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran said the scientific ideas should be implemented industrially.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran proposes the Caspian Sea neighboring countries to cooperate on reproduction of aquatic species in the Persian Gulf in the Caspian Sea,” he added.
Khavazi went on to stress that Iran has had success in establishing shrimp and aquacultural farms in arid regions.
“According to Russia's knowledge and experience, we can have extensive cooperation."
He went on to note that the Research units of the Islamic Republic of Iran are ready to assess the status of Caspian reserves.
Khavazi added that it is necessary to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two sides and all countries of the Caspian Basin to monitor reserves and discuss Caspian pollutants.
In the talks with the Russian Minister of Agriculture, it was agreed to reach an understanding of various agricultural issues.
