BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 7. The number of foreign citizens and stateless individuals who visited Azerbaijan in January 2025 reached 172,653 people, a record level after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Tourism Agency shows that this figure grew by four percent (6,785 people) more compared to January of last year and 136,538 people (4.8 times) more than the figures of the last five years.
Specifically, in January 2024, 165,868 foreign citizens and stateless individuals visited Azerbaijan, while in January 2021, this number was 36,115.
Additionally, during the same month in 2022, the influx of tourists increased by 37,942 people (two times) compared to the previous year, and in 2023, the influx increased by 45,037 people (60.8 percent).
In January 2022, 74,057 foreign citizens and stateless individuals visited Azerbaijan, and in January 2023, the number was 119,094.
The figures recorded in January of this year have reached a record high post-pandemic. Specifically, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in February 2020, marking the spread of the pandemic to Azerbaijan.
A month later, on March 31, a nationwide quarantine was declared in Azerbaijan.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, in January 2020, 226,164 foreign citizens and stateless individuals visited Azerbaijan, which is 53,511 people, or 31 percent, more than in January of this year.
