BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. Azerbaijan's Azerenergy OJSC produced over 6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from its thermal and hydroelectric power stations in the first quarter of 2025, the OJSC told Trend.
Meanwhile, the volume of energy produced in the first three months of 2025 was nearly identical to the previous year’s production, significant progress has been made in terms of efficiency.
This improvement is largely attributed to a reduction in thermal energy production and an increase in the use of environmentally friendly and renewable hydropower.
In the same period last year, the company’s hydroelectric stations generated 420 million kilowatt-hours, whereas in the first quarter of 2025, this figure rose to 645 million kilowatt-hours. This represents a significant shift, with thermal energy decreasing by 1.5 times and being replaced by hydropower. The increase in hydroelectric production is directly linked to the ongoing construction and commissioning of small hydroelectric power plants in Karabakh and East Zangezur.
Compared to the same period last year, Azerenergy has reduced the specific fuel consumption per kilowatt-hour of electricity by 6.2 grams. This reduction has led to savings of 78.5 million cubic meters of natural gas and the corresponding financial resources.
