Uzbek Ambassador to Malaysia Ravshan Usmanov held talks with President of Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA), James Loke and discussed issues of further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, Trend reports citing Dunyo News Agency.

In particular, the meeting focused on organizing deliveries of high-quality agricultural, textile, leather and footwear, cosmetic and chemical products from Uzbekistan to Malaysia.

During the talks, James Loke noted that the special attention paid to the further development and diversification of exports of Uzbek products, as well as the conditions created in the country for exporting companies during the pandemic will facilitate the sustainable development of the country's economy.

In addition, the Malaysian side proposed to consider the possibility of membership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in the Federation of Asia Pacific Retailers Association (FAPRA) with headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

“Following the talks, agreements have been reached on organizing the participation of large Malaysian trade companies in the exhibition and fair events in Uzbekistan, holding talks with the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan to discuss the issues of FAPRA membership, discussing the issues of organizing the supply of Uzbek products to Malaysia, as well as assisting MRA in the supply and promotion of Uzbek high-quality products through large wholesale and retail networks,” the message said.

Founded in 1982, the Malaysian Retailers Association brings together some 150 of the country's largest retailers. MRA makes proposals to the government of Malaysia on further development of trade companies' activities, including obtaining benefits on import of necessary products for sale in the domestic market of the country.

MRA is one of the founders of the Union of Associations of Retailers of Asia-Pacific and represents the interests of major Malaysian trade companies in events (conferences and exhibitions of retailers) held by this Union.

The members of the Union are associations and chambers of commerce and industry in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey and other countries.
