In 2019, Georgia met 99.8 percent of the need for natural gas thanks to the import, Trend reports citing the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC).
Azerbaijan remained as the leading gas supplier of Georgia, supplying 93 percent of that volume, said the commission.
In the reporting period, in Georgia the demand for natural gas increased by 15 percent year-on-year to 2.5 billion cubic meters.
In 2019, the share of imported electricity increased by 7.8 percent compared to the preceding year, and the volume of electricity imports were 6.7 times higher than export volume.
As for the natural gas sector, in 2019 the demand for it in the country increased by 15 percent and amounted to 2.5 billion cubic meters.
The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission is the single authority equipped with nation-wide competences in regulating the electricity and natural gas sectors in Georgia.
