An electric submersible pump (ESP) has been repaired and installed for the first time at the Masjed Soleyman oil field in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran), said Sina Sepehri, the executor of plan of Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) for development of Masjed Soleyman oil field, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
Sepehri noted that this pump was repaired by the PEDED for the first time and successfully installed in the well of the Masjed Soleyman oil field.
The official added that more than $300,000 has been saved by repairing the pump with the help of local specialists.
“About 70 percent of the money to be spent on the purchase of a new pump was saved with the repairing the ESP pump,” he said.
The official stressed that at present, a program has been developed for repairing of 4 more pumps in the Masjed Soleyman oil field.
The Masjed Soleyman oil field is located 125 km northeast of the Ahvaz city in Iran's Khuzestan Province. This oil field was discovered in 1908. The field contains about 6.2 billion barrels of oil. So far, 1.2 billion barrels of oil have been extracted from this field.
At present, 5,000 barrels of oil are extracted from this field per day. Iran plans to increase daily extraction from this oil field to 25,000 barrels in the first stage and to 35,000 barrels in the next stage.
