BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 4. A total of 63,339 tourists from Russia flocked to Azerbaijan this August, marking a 24 percent increase compared to the same month in 2023 (51,019), Trend reports.
The Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency reports that the figure for the first eight months of this year was 501,417, an increase of 18% compared to the same time in 2023 (426,177 people).
During the first eight months of 2024, Azerbaijan welcomed over 1.7 million foreign tourists in total, representing a 30 percent increase compared to the 1.34 million arrivals in the same period last year.
For comparison, more than 2.08 million foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan in 2023, which is more than 30.2 percent more than the figure of 2022 (1.6 million), including 625,106 people from Russia, which is 39.9 percent more than the figure of 2022 (446,831).
To note, over 4.2 million Russian citizens visited Azerbaijan from 2017 through 2023 (2017 - 853,082, 2018 - 878,391, 2019 - 932,198, 2020 - 225,214, 2021 - 257,959, 2022 - 446,831, and 2023 - 625,106).
