QR code payments in Kyrgyzstan making waves in financial landscape

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 27. Kyrgyzstan has around 51,000 QR code payment stations that were operational as of October 1, 2024, Trend reports via the country's National Bank.

The regional distribution of these installations is as follows:

- Bishkek: 27,788 points;

- Osh Region: 6,069 points;

- Jalal-Abad Region: 4,921 points;

- Chuy Region: 4,401 points;

- Issyk-Kul Region: 3,473 points;

- Batken Region: 1,684 points;

- Talas Region: 1,389 points;

- Naryn Region: 1,264 points.

During the third quarter of 2024, a total of 17.3 million payments were made using QR codes through the operator's payment system, totaling 19.9 billion soms ($229.2 million). This marks an increase of 21.7 and 24.8 times, respectively, compared to the same period in 2023.

Among these payments, 244,010 were for government services, totaling 817.45 million soms (around $9.4 million). Payments for government services saw growth of 31.3 times in volume and 66.8 times in value compared to the third quarter of 2023.
