Customs duty and excise tax for the import of cane and beet sugar, as well as chemically pure sucrose in solid state, will be abolished in Uzbekistan starting from Sept. 15, according to Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s decree adopted Sept. 13.
Previously, the excise tax on the import of these types of goods was 10 percent of the customs value.
The decision was made to further optimize customs duty rates and prevent the growth of domestic prices for certain types of food products in Uzbekistan.
It was earlier reported that excise tax on imported meat and edible meat by-products, poultry fat, pork fat, wheat flour and products used for animal feeding was abolished in Uzbekistan Sept. 1.
Customs duties on butter, soybean and sunflower oils, seeds of potatoes, wheat, olives, rye, barley, oats, corn, sorghum, buckwheat, millet, soybeans, flax, sunflower and others, as well as on rye flour, cereals and coarse wheat flour, cane sugar, cocoa beans, raw materials used in pharmaceuticals were also abolished.
In addition, customs duties on certain types of goods, including those on cattle meat, pork, pork fat, poultry fat and other edible meat by-products, coffee, wheat flour, cane sugar, were reduced in Uzbekistan.
