BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 11. The import of passenger cars to Iran has increased 20 times in value and 30 times in quantity in the 3 months of the current Iranian year (March 20–June 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through June 21, 2023), Iran's Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Director General of Customs Administration Mohammad Rezvani-Far said, Trend reports.
According to him, a total of 8,257 cars worth $165 million were imported to Iran during the past three months.
Rezvani-Far noted that during the same period last year, 277 passenger cars worth $8.3 million were imported to Iran.
The official said another 5,200 passenger cars worth $90 million are scheduled to pass through the country's customs.
Iran's imports of non-oil products amounted to 9.4 million tons worth $14.3 billion during 3 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 20, 2024). During the 3 months, non-oil imports increased by 1.4 percent in value and 7.8 percent in weight compared to last year.
To note, Iran mainly focuses on importing the products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on the importation of products manufactured in the country.
