BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19. It is expected that Iran's rice production in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025) will increase compared to last year, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture, Sohrab Sohrabi, said, Trend reports.
According to him, 4.2 million tons of rice were harvested and 2.5 million tons of rice were produced in the country last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024).
Sohrabi noted that a total of 650,000 hectares of rice have been planted in 19 provinces to increase rice production this year. The largest area of 550,000 hectares has been planted with rice in three provinces (Gilan, Mazandaran, and Golestan).
The official added that this year rice has been sown with a new method on 5,000 ha. This method utilizes fewer different types of preparations, which leads to better quality of the product.
To note, Iran cultivates, on average, more than 130 million tons of agricultural products per year.
The total area of agricultural land in Iran is more than 12 million hectares.
