Turkey’s leading mobile phone operator, Turkcell has expressed readiness to move servers of its IP-based communication application, BiP to Iran.
The company’s CEO Kaan Terzioglu, who is in Tehran to attend "Iran Connect 2016" conference said that Turkcell is ready to boost cooperation with Iranian telecommunication companies, Tasnim news agency reported Sept. 7.
Terzioglu made the remarks during a meeting with Iran’s ICT minister Mahmoud Vaezi.
He further said that at least 45,000 Iranians use BiP at the moment, adding that the company is ready to develop the application’s Persian version and move the servers processing Iranian users’ data to Iran.
Iran says that mobile social networking applications, including the popular messaging app Telegram, should move their servers inside the country if they seek to continue their operation in the Islamic Republic.
Vaezi, for his turn, expressed satisfaction with current level of economic, social and political ties between Iran and Turkey.
He underlined that Turkey’s security and stability is very important for Iran.
“There are many opportunities for cooperation and investment in Iran’s ICT sector,” Vaezi said.
The two-day Iran Connect 2016 conference kicked off in the capital city of Tehran on Sept. 6. The gathering is a platform for foreign companies willing to invest in Iran’s information technology and telecommunication sector.
