Iran holds an important position on international transit of its region and the trade turnover between the Islamic Republic and Indonesia has increased 2.5 times compared to last year, Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Oktavino Alimudin said in the Araz Free Trade Zone while meeting with the zone's managers.
The trade turnover of the two countries has reached $800 million and there are opportunities to increase it up to $1 billion.
The Indonesian ambassador mentioned that nine free trade zones are functioning in his country, and stressed that using economic opportunities of the Araz Free Trade Zone is important for the development of trade relations between Indonesia and Iran.
The production of plastic and cellophane packages, shoes and suit factories, greenhouses show that Iran is developing among the region's countries, the ambassador added.
"Indonesia wants mutual cooperation of the two countries' trade zones in the petrochemical, non-oil sectors, including clothing, leather shoes and halal food industry," the ambassador said adding that he has also visited neighboring countries and got closely acquainted with their industry.
