Handling operations in Iran's Imam Khomeini port increase

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 28. The volume of loaded and unloaded cargo at Imam Khomeini Port of Khuzestan Province, located in southwestern Iran, increased by 22 percent in the nine months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through December 20, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through December 21, 2023), the Director General of the Ports and Maritime Administration of Iran's Khuzestan province, Abutaleb Gerailou told reporters, Trend reports.

He stated that Imam Khomeini Port handled the loading and unloading of approximately 2.5 million tons of products over the course of nine months. Of them, 2.53 million tons were loaded, and 1.74 million tons of products were unloaded.

Gerailou added that over 69,000 tons of TEU containers were handled at Imam Khomeini Port over the past nine months, reflecting a significant 45 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

During the nine months, Iran's Imam Khomeini Port handled a total of 36 million tons of cargo.

To note, Iran's Khuzestan province has a coastline of 1,186 kilometers long. The main ports of this province are Imam Khomeini, Khorramshahr, Abadan, Sajafi, Shadegan, Choebdeh, and Arvandkenar and Sajafi.

The current throughput capacity of Iran's ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports to 500 million tons.
