BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16. Iran's import of essential products through Imam Khomeini Port in Khuzestan Province in the country's southwest to various Iranian provinces rose by 17 percent during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Aboutaleb Geraylou, the director-general of Khuzestan's Ports and Maritime Department, told reporters, Trend reports.

He said that in the reporting year, approximately 15.6 million tons of essential products (wheat, barley, rice, crude oil, etc.) were transported through Imam Khomeini Port to various provinces of the country.

Geraylou added that 70 percent of the essential products imported last year accounted for this port.

“Currently, 41,700 tons of products are unloaded daily at Imam Khomeini Port. This was achieved by renewing equipment and supplies and improving operational processes,” he said.

To note, Imam Khomeini Port is considered the second strategic port after Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormuzgan Province, located in the south of Iran.
