Launch of the service of checking IMEI-code of mobile phone via SMS-request is expected in mid-October, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan told Trend on Friday.
According to the Ministry, a new way of checking will remotely verify the authenticity of IMEI-code of mobile phone by sending it via SMS to a short number. The short number will be announced after the launch of the service.
"The tests on the launch of SMS-alert service are at the final stage," the Ministry said.
The new way of checking IMEI-codes will allow early prevention of users from buying a product that does not meet quality standards, as its further work in mobile networks of Azerbaijan may be impossible.
Currently, over 13 million mobile phones have been registered in the data base of mobile phones' IMEI-codes in Azerbaijan.
Besides mobile phones, the system includes the devices of GSM standard (navigators, home appliances, etc.).
