BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. Azerbaijan reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the severe humanitarian impact of landmines, marking the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, Trend reports citing MFA.

According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) continue to pose a serious threat to human life, slowing reconstruction efforts and complicating the safe return of internally displaced persons.

The ministry noted that Azerbaijan remains among the countries most heavily affected by mine contamination.

It also called on the international community to increase support for humanitarian demining operations and assistance to victims.

Officials emphasized, that a mine-free future is essential for sustainable peace, development, and human security.
