TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 2. Uzbekistan demonstrates the highest growth rates of the telecommunications sector among CIS countries, a joint study by Nexign and analytical agency TelecomDaily says, Trend reports.
The Uzbek telecom market is expected to grow by an average of 12.7 percent annually through 2027, significantly ahead of the regional average of 4–6 percent. The sector's rapid expansion is attributed to infrastructure modernization, 5G rollout, and the introduction of new digital services.
From 2020 to 2024, the volume of the telecom market in Uzbekistan doubled, rising from $806 million to $1.65 billion. In 2024 alone, market growth reached 18.6 percent, outpacing Kazakhstan (11 percent), Kyrgyzstan (13.6 percent), and Russia (7.8 percent).
The digital transformation strategy Uzbekistan–2030 targets full broadband coverage, nationwide 5G deployment, and a tenfold increase in internet speeds. Fifth-generation networks are expected to reach all regional centers, including the Republic of Karakalpakstan, by 2030. Uzbektelecom, the state operator controlling 83 percent of the home internet market, plays a central role in achieving these goals.
Technological milestones include the deployment of 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), which enhances connectivity in remote areas, and Ucell’s early launch of 5G Standalone services using Nexign infrastructure.
By the end of 2024, internet access had reached 93.3 percent of households, while mobile subscriber numbers rose to 36.3 million. Mobile penetration stands at 81.1 per 100 people. Telecom operators are expanding services across consumer and business segments, including streaming platforms, fintech tools, cloud services, and Big Data solutions.
The market is forecast to grow by another 15.3 percent in 2025, reaching $1.9 billion.
