BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. Azerbaijan’s economy had its hands full, employing about 1.8 million people, with 858,100 toiling away in the public sector and 910,300 making their mark in the private sector as of August 1, 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee indicates that among employees, 18.9 percent worked in trade and vehicle repair, 18.1 percent in education, 13.8 percent in industry, 8.5 percent in healthcare and social services, 6.8 percent in construction, 6.3 percent in public administration, defense, and social protection, 4.2 percent in transport and warehousing, 3.9 percent in professional, scientific, and technical services, 2.4 percent in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, 2.3 percent in finance and insurance, and 14.8 percent in other sectors.
During the first seven months of 2025, the average monthly nominal wage for employees increased by 9.5 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1,098 manat ($645.9). Higher average wages were recorded in mining, finance and insurance, information and communications, professional, scientific, and technical services, as well as transport and warehousing.
