BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. Azerbaijan has been shortlisted to host the International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meeting in 2029, said First Deputy Minister of Finance Anar Karimov, Trend reports.
Speaking at the II Azerbaijan Halal Business (AZHAB) Forum, Karimov noted that the country will host an evaluation mission this December as part of the preparation.
“Our cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank Group, the World Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is expanding. Next year, Azerbaijan will host the annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank, which presents an important opportunity to highlight halal certification and Islamic finance,” he said.
The deputy minister underscored the synergistic relationship between Azerbaijan and the principles of ethical governance, highlighting their mutual reinforcement in the broader context of public administration and policy frameworks.
“When innovation and responsibility are combined, we not only build strong but also reliable systems. Islamic finance, halal business, and sound fiscal policy all share the goal of creating fair, sustainable, and inclusive prosperity,” he added.
To note, the Azerbaijan Halal Business (AZHAB) Forum 2025 has commenced in Baku. The two-day event, organized by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA) under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Economy, centers on the theme "Halal industry as a source of resilience in a rapidly changing world."
