BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 30. Iran’s natural gas exports fell by 32.3 percent in value and 24.8 percent in volume in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through October 22, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from March 20 through October 21, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) indicates that the country exported around 9.51 million tons of natural gas, valued at around $2.8 billion in the reported period. This is a sharp decrease from the previous year, when exports totaled 12.7 million tons worth $4.13 billion.
Furthermore, natural gas constituted 8.7 percent of the aggregate value and 10.3 percent of the overall weight of Iran's export portfolio over the course of these seven months.
Notwithstanding these downturns, Iran continues to be a preeminent player in the global natural gas landscape, boasting an estimated 34 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves alongside 22 operational gas fields.
Iran's quotidian output of natural gas hovers around 1 billion cubic meters, while the demand trajectory generally escalates to approximately 800 million cubic meters per diem in the winter season.
