Russian Polymetal company will start production at Kyzyl gold project in North-Eastern Kazakhstan in 3Q2018, the company said in a message April 19.
“At Kyzyl, construction and pre-stripping activities are progressing in line with the project schedule. Kyzyl is on track to produce its first concentrate in 3Q2018,” the company said.
Moreover the company is implementing debottlenecking project on the Amursk hydrometallurgical plant. Polymetal plans to ramp up the plant to its full expanded capacity in the second half of 2018, in time to take feed from the Kyzyl concentrator.
The Amursk hydrometallurgical plant uses pressure oxidation (POX) and cyanidation technologies to process refractory concentrates which require pre-treatment oxidation before conventional cyanidation to extract the sulphur component.
Polymetal completed the acquisition of the Kyzyl project in September 2014. The project consists of the Bakyrchik and Bolshevik refractory gold deposits in Eastern Kazakhstan.
The acquisition increased the company's gold equivalent reserves by approximately 50 percent, with a single large high-grade Bakyrchik deposit containing gold reserves of 7.3 million ounces at 7.7 gram per ton in accordance with the JORC Code. A life of the mine for approximately 20 years. The project will initially be developed as an open pit.
