PremiumGeorgia sees increase in PPI for industrial products

Producer Price Index (PPI) for industrial products increased by 1.5 percent in April 2020 compared to the previous month in Georgia, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The prices for manufactured products were 2.5 percent higher compared to the previous month, resulting in a 2.01 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change. Within the group, noteworthy price increases were registered for beverages (3 percent), other non-metallic mineral products (4.5 percent) and basic metals (2.1 percent).

Meanwhile, compared to April 2019, the index growth amounted to 10.1 percent.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the manufactured products: the prices increased by 10.9 percent, contributing 8.83 percentage points to the overall annual index growth.

There was a notable increase in the prices for food products (13.1 percent), beverages (9.4 percent) and other non-metallic mineral products (14.3 percent).

The prices on products from mining and quarrying were 15.5 percent higher, contributing 0.99 percentage points to the overall annual index growth. The annual prices on electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning amounted to 3.7 percent, which contributed 0.38 percentage points on the annual index growth.
