The drilling of 21 wells has been completed in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran) as part of a plan to develop the South Azadegan oil field, said Mohammad Khavarinejad, Operations Manager at National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), Trend reports citing National Iranian Oil Company’s website.
According to Khavarinejad, it is envisaged in the plan for the development of the South Azadegan field to drill and upgrade 23 wells.
The manager emphasized that so far, 81,100 meters of drilling work has been carried out under this plan.
He noted that 9 drilling rigs were used in this plan.
"Wells, the drilling and improvement of which has been completed, will be handed over to the Iran’s Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC)," he said.
The manager said that in addition, the NIDC will drill 10 wells in the South Azadegan field. In this regard, 3 drilling rigs have been installed.
“About 12,000 meters of drillings will be carried related to 10 wells. Drilling of these wells is scheduled to be completed through beginning next Iranian year (March 21, 2021)," he said.
Khavarinejad so far, the National Iranian Drilling Company has drilled a total of 64 wells in the South Azadegan field.
The South Azadegan oil field is located in the area of about 440 square kilometers, 80 km west of the Ahvaz city. The South Azadegan oil field extracts 140,000 barrels of crude oil per day. It is planned to increase oil extraction from this field to 320,000 barrels per day in the first stage and 600,000 barrels in the second stage.
